The Dialogue Between Page and Pen
My songwriting process begins not with a melody, but with a book. I am less interested in retelling stories than I am in engaging in a musical dialogue with the texts that move me—most notably the works of Eduardo Galeano. This creative "scavenging" involves deep reading and historical research (such as pairing Galeano with the scholarship of Pamela Newkirk) to synthesize complex emotions into song.
My musical language is built upon a vast foundation of global folk and humanist traditions. By absorbing the structural and emotional eloquence of artists like Violeta Parra, Victor Jara, and Pete Seeger, I create a framework for my own reflections. What began as a private exercise in "failing better" eventually evolved into a three-year journey of composition. Though these songs were originally kept in a "box of dreams" for my own quiet reflection, they have finally reached a point where they must be shared. They are the result of action, reflection, and the turbulent pursuit of meaning.
